TRENTON, N.J. - Merck & Co. says a Texas appeals court has overturned a verdict against the drugmaker in a case involving its withdrawn painkiller Vioxx.
A Texas jury two years ago awarded the widow of 71-year-old Leonel (LAY'-oh-nel) Garza $32 million. That later was cut to about $7.75 million under Texas damage caps.
Garza had had a long history of heart disease and died of a heart attack after taking Vioxx briefly.
Merck said Wednesday the appeals court found insufficient evidence supporting the jury's verdict.
The New Jersey-based drugmaker pulled Vioxx from the market in September 2004 after research showed the painkiller doubled risk of heart attacks and strokes. Reply...

OP, so right . Great post as usual.
FOSSILMAN I am not sure if I will get on or not, hope I do, I will use it to get my conversion van fixed. I really love my van but it needs a new rear end..

Morning Shoppe.... I do not know why I am still here but.... it was the link to the Pastor, I believe...I do not try to be offensive... I guess honesty is not the best policy.... I am learning grace from you though.... Anyway.... yes they should pay...... they are the lucky ones who will get some monetary form of pain and suffering... Think of all those who have been abused and are still being abused and will never get anything but memories.... It is an epidemic in this country.... I think it has been drug out of the dark and it is in the forefront but I also believe that the internet helps it move along...It must be like a candy store to a Pedophile...I do not believe that they can be helped..... So many are reoffenders....they are more dangerous than most murderers....They say that 1 in 3 families has been affected by some form of Pedophilia.... that really makes me angry.....but to blame it one group of people like Priests is wrong because then it sends the message that everyone else is okay.... more kids are molested by a a family member than by a stranger or acquaintence..... I believe that drugs, alcohol and being a social loner contributes to this....Our kids are the helpless victims in all of this....Shoppe our country has come no where on race if you have any opinon other than give them anything they want they deserve it and accept all responsibility for stuff you weren't even alive for then you are a racist........I guess that I must be if those are the qualifications. But I know me and I know what I am not...You are too kind and honest of a soul and I wouldn't judge you for it anyway.... For me it is always about the issues..... I haven't even brought up the Senator from New York but we are so used to this that it doesn't even make the news anymore.... This is truly sad and the media knows these truths and has decided that it is no big deal with him, they drug Spitzer through the mud and this guy they just ignore... He actually is a clone .... He used citizens money for the trists, he did all kinds of drugs. But there he is treated like the Governor of New York, (my home state) all the pomp and circumstance, that goes along and our kids are thinking, what the heck if it is good enough for him then......It is a good thing they come home every day to a mom who says NO this is not right and that there two sided to every story... Fair and Balanced (this would make a great post name) Reply...
Good morning OP. glad to hear from you.
Flapps, I am glad you weren't molested as a kid, Because I know personally it is not something you soon forget. So I am glad for you.
But op is right, perverts are EVERYWHERE, even in the white house . I think flapps that we are finally doing more about it than say 40 years ago. There has been improvements made in the area of catholic church pedifiles. Really, don't you see it?
OP , yes, millions to the victims, as it should be. Reply...

You are so right about these disgusting people, like dads, teachers, neighbors, police, lawyers, doctors, they are all people who have levels of trust assigned also..... Are you angry because you were never victimized... Reply...
I was an altar boy but not molested and this is not the only thing subject I can comment about. I just feel that these perverts are getting off the hook far too easy and should be punished like the rest of the sinners. Female school teachers that molest boys have their faces all over the tube along with other people that are not in the Catholic Circle, so should these Catholic Perverts!!! Reply...
Flapps were you molested by a priest? This seems to be the only thing you think about, which is fine. I am just saying not EVERY RELIGIOUS PERSON IS A CREEP. Some are, most are not... lets talk. Reply...
NO DOUBT THEIR ARE MANY MOLESTERS OUT THERE, HOWEVER, PRIESTS USE THEIR POSITION AS SOMEONE SUPPOSED TO BE HOLY LIKE NEXT TO GOD AND THEN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF LITTLE KIDS. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH PROTECTS THESE PERVERTS LIKE THEY ARE SOMEONE SPECIAL AND ABOVE THE LAW. THE CATHOLIC CHURCH SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS BUT TOO MANY BRAIN DEAD CATHOLICS ARE STILL PROGRAMMED INTO BELIEVING THAT THE POPE IS NEXT TO GOD. BALONEY! Reply...

How to use your upcoming tax rebate…
As you may have heard, the present Republican Administration said that each and every one of us would now get a nice tax rebate. So, what should we spend it on?
If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs,
If we purchase a computer it will all go to India.
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will all go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala,
If we purchase a good car it will all go to Japan or Europe.
If we purchase useless crap it will all go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.
We need to keep that money here in America!! So, the only way to keep that money here at home is to buy hookers and beer and visit Indian casinos, since those are the only businesses still in the US.
Hmmm, maybe Gov. Spitzer had the right idea.

The 'logic' displayed in this posting is positively mind boggling. I'm Canadian and I've lived in the U.S. with its defacto two tier medical system and also in Australia with its official two tier system. I'll take the Canadian medical system any day.
In Canada, I can walk into any clinic or hospital and I'll be guaranteed medical care. We do not have HMO's deciding which tests and medical procedures are "necessary" nor do I have to worry about going bankrupt as a result of a major medical issue. (The greatest cause of bankruptcy amongst the middle class in the U.S. are medical expenses.)
In this particular case there is an important point:
The family of the patient and the rabbi involved based their arguement on false claims about the religious ethics involved in this situation. Contrary to their claim, removing life support is not seen as hastening death under these circumstances. The normative stance sees this as an issue of prolonging death which is not allowed in Judaism. For greater context, 'orthodox' synagogues in Israel do remove life support in similar circumstances. I love seeing you both are getting along so well now. Peace and Harmony.. Reply...
